A Beautiful Toenail Isn’t Just Glued On — It’s Professionally Reconstructed
If you have ever considered covering an ugly, damaged, or fungal toenail with an artificial nail from a salon, there is an important difference you should understand.
KeryFlex is not a press-on nail, acrylic nail, or artificial toenail that is simply glued over your existing nail.
It is a professional nail restoration system designed specifically for damaged toenails. The KeryFlex resin is sculpted directly onto the remaining natural nail and chemically bonded to the existing nail plate, creating one integrated restoration.
Think of it somewhat like a dentist restoring a damaged tooth: rather than simply placing something over the surface, the restorative material is bonded directly to the underlying structure.
Once cured, the KeryFlex restoration becomes firmly bonded to your natural nail. In fact, KeryFlex does not simply “pop off” like a typical artificial nail. When removal is necessary, the material generally must be professionally filed away as the natural nail grows forward.
Why Is KeryFlex Different From an Acrylic Toenail?
This is especially important for women with toenails damaged by fungus.
Traditional salon acrylic nails are primarily designed for cosmetic fingernail enhancement—not for reconstructing diseased or damaged toenails.
Acrylic nails are relatively rigid. As your toes move inside your shoes and absorb thousands of small impacts throughout the day, a rigid artificial nail does not flex naturally with the toe. This can place additional stress on an already damaged nail and nail bed.
KeryFlex is different.
The medical-grade resin creates a nail that is flexible yet durable, allowing the reconstructed nail to move more naturally with your toe. KeryFlex is specifically designed for toenails rather than simply adapting a fingernail acrylic system to the foot.
Bonded — Not Simply Glued On
Another important difference is how the new nail attaches to your natural toenail.
Salon artificial nails typically rely on adhesives and acrylic materials placed over the nail.
KeryFlex uses a specialized bonding system followed by a medical-grade resin that is cured directly to the remaining natural nail.
The result is a restoration that becomes permanently bonded to the existing nail plate until it grows forward or is professionally removed.
Because of this bonding process, KeryFlex can often recreate portions of a damaged or missing toenail while still maintaining a secure connection to the healthy nail that remains.
At least a portion of the natural toenail must remain because KeryFlex bonds to nail—not skin.
What About Fungus Under the Nail?
This is one of the most common questions we hear:
“If my toenail has fungus, won’t covering it make the fungus worse?”
That concern is understandable—especially if you are thinking about the way traditional artificial nails work.
KeryFlex was specifically designed with damaged and fungal toenails in mind.
Once cured and sealed, the KeryFlex restoration is non-porous and impermeable, helping prevent moisture from penetrating into the space between the natural nail and the reconstructed nail. This is very different from an artificial nail that develops areas of lifting where moisture and debris may become trapped underneath.
Even more importantly, KeryFlex contains piroctone, an antifungal ingredient, as well as antimicrobial colloidal silver.
KeryFlex itself is not a treatment or cure for toenail fungus, but it was specifically developed so that patients with fungal nail damage can receive cosmetic nail restoration while appropriate antifungal treatment is being considered or performed.
That is a very different concept from simply hiding a diseased toenail underneath a cosmetic salon acrylic.
KeryFlex vs. a Salon Artificial Toenail
Salon Acrylic or Artificial Nail
- Usually designed primarily for cosmetic nail enhancement
- Relatively rigid
- Commonly uses strong adhesives or acrylic systems
- Does not flex naturally with the movement of the toe
- Lifting or separation can potentially create spaces where moisture and debris accumulate
- May conceal an abnormal nail without determining why the nail became damaged
- Traditional acrylic systems may use acids that can irritate or further damage the existing nail
KeryFlex Nail Restoration
- Designed specifically for damaged toenails
- Performed by a trained medical foot-care provider
- Uses a medical-grade dental resin
- Permanently bonds to the remaining natural toenail
- Flexible enough to move with the toe
- Durable enough for normal daily activities
- Cured and sealed to create a non-porous restoration
- Contains antifungal piroctone
- Contains antimicrobial colloidal silver
- Allows the natural nail to continue growing underneath
- Can be used for cosmetic improvement of nails damaged by fungus, trauma, surgery, splitting, ridging, or deformity
Beauty Without Simply Covering Up the Problem
For many women, the appearance of the toenail is only half of the concern.
You also want to know that whatever is being placed on your nail isn’t going to make an already damaged nail worse.
That is one of the reasons we prefer KeryFlex.
Rather than having an artificial toenail glued over a damaged nail at a salon, your nail is first evaluated in a medical setting. We can determine whether the abnormal appearance is likely related to fungus, trauma, previous nail surgery, repetitive shoe pressure, or another condition.
We then carefully prepare the nail and sculpt the KeryFlex restoration directly onto the healthy portion of the existing nail plate.
The result is not simply an artificial nail sitting on top of your toenail.
It becomes a bonded reconstruction of the nail itself.
From a Nail You Hide to a Nail You’re Happy to Show
The difference can be remarkable.
Many of our patients have spent years hiding a damaged great toenail with closed-toe shoes, bandages, dark nail polish, or strategically positioned sandals.
KeryFlex can often transform the appearance of that nail during a single office visit.
No waiting nine to twelve months hoping your toenail eventually looks better.
Come into the office with a nail you are embarrassed to show.
Leave with a natural-looking reconstructed toenail that you can confidently put into sandals.

Individual results vary. KeryFlex is a cosmetic nail restoration and does not cure fungal nail infections or other underlying nail diseases.
