What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a type of medical treatment that uses substances such as stem cells and growth factors to promote the body’s natural healing process. Regenerative medicine has the potential to treat a wide range of diseases and conditions, including chronic pain, injuries, and chronic wounds.

What types of regenerative medicine treatments does Dr. Walimire perform?

At our practice, we regularly utilize Platelet Rich Plasma injections and laser therapy as regenerative medicine treatments. That being said, we also have the capability of utilizing amniotic fluid, amniotic membranes, placental tissue, cord blood stem cells, and bone marrow aspirate (BMAC) to treat various wounds and musculoskeletal conditions.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a form of regenerative medicine that has gained popularity in recent years. This treatment involves taking a patient’s blood, processing it to isolate platelets and growth factors, and injecting the PRP solution into the affected area. This therapy can stimulate tissue regeneration and healing, and is commonly used to treat osteoarthritis, tendon injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions. Moreover, PRP injections are minimally invasive, provide long-lasting pain relief, and have a low risk of side effects, making them a safe and effective treatment option for many patients. This tissue can also be made into a graft that can be applied to chronic wounds, speeding the healing process.

Class IV Laser Therapy (The Remy) is a non-invasive treatment modality that utilizes high-powered laser technology to promote tissue healing and reduce pain and inflammation. This therapy works by delivering a high dose of light energy to the affected area, stimulating cellular regeneration and reducing inflammation. It is often used to treat soft tissue injuries, osteoarthritis, chronic pain conditions, and chronic wounds. The benefits of Class IV Laser Therapy include reduced pain and inflammation, improved range of motion, accelerated healing, and increased blood flow to the affected area. This treatment is safe, non-invasive, and can provide long-lasting pain relief for patients seeking an effective and non-surgical treatment option. It can also be used during post-operative recovery to reduce the pain and inflammation associated with surgery and can be used to improve circulation to chronic wounds and reduce the surface bacteria which can inhibit wound healing.

How much does regenerative medicine cost?

These treatment modalities are typically not covered by insurance, with the exception of the treatment of chronic wounds. Each type of treatment has a different cost associated with it. Consultation with Dr. Walimire is recommended to determine if these treatments are right for you and to discuss all other treatment options so that you can make the most informed decision regarding your care.
